Al Shihr Port

This port was established following the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities in Block 14 of Messila, and its preparation process was completed in 1993. It is used to export Messila Blend crude oil.

Location:

This port is located on the south-eastern coast of the Republic on the Arabian Sea near the city of Al-Shihr, from which it takes its name. It is about 15 kilometers to the east from Mukalla, and about 426 kilometers from the city of Aden.

Area:

Al Shihr Port is estimated at approximately 1,790,000 square metres, not including the floating loading point.

Operator:

Canadian Nexen Petroleum Limited, the concession holder in (Sector 14) of Al-Masila, operates this port.

Loading facilities (single mooring mooring):

It is a floating rotating disk with a diameter of (12) meters, and is located in water about 45 meters deep. This anchorage allows the oil tanker to move in all directions within the harshest conditions related to the prevailing winds and currents.

Metering system used to measure oil Source:

This system consists of the following main parts:
1. 16-inch positive displacement type meters with a maximum flow capacity of (12) thousand barrels per hour for each meter.
2. A 30-inch diameter calibration tube is used to calibrate meters upon export to obtain the correction factor for these meters.
3. A device for collecting samples of exported crude oil in order to analyze it.
4. Densitometer: It is used only as an indicator of the density of the raw source. This system is managed automatically by a sophisticated computer located in the control and monitoring room.

Crude oil tank hangar:

This hangar includes (5) tanks, the capacity of each tank is about (500) thousand barrels, and the total capacity is estimated at (2.5) million barrels.

Loading vector size:

This port can receive tankers whose deadweight tonnage ranges between (90) thousand metric tons as a minimum and (400) thousand metric tons as a maximum, provided that they are not more than 25 years old.

Crude oil pumping rate to tankers:

- The minimum pumping rate is (15) thousand barrels per hour.
- The maximum pumping rate is (60) thousand barrels per hour.

Port working hours:

The port operates 24 hours a day, meaning that any tanker can enter at any hour of the day if circumstances require it and the weather conditions permit it.
